Are you fascinated by big numbers, scale and performance?

We are working with an online travel booking platform obsessed with its numbers and looking for a Senior Platform Engineer with the same fascination for improving them even further.

Where are they on their journey? They have a million website visitors daily, over 100 microservices, and a p95 search latency of 150ms; they capture 1TB of logs on Loki and take 350,000 samples a second. They also deploy to production 500 times a month. Sexy stuff, right?

What is the role?

In this role, the Senior Platform Engineer will contribute to building reliable, performant, auto-scalable and highly available/low latency systems.

The Platform team is crucial for the company as it ensures that all the technology used works well, can scale, and is cost-effective. Their focus is on making the systems fast, reliable, and capable of handling increased workloads. Your team will support the development teams by providing tools and practices to manage their services effectively from creation to operation.

Your role will involve assisting other engineering teams in ensuring the smooth operation of their services rather than managing the services directly. You'll play a key role in ensuring that the platform and foundational services can expand and adapt to growing demands. This will involve using advanced platform engineering practices, deep expertise in Kubernetes, and staying updated on the latest Cloud Native tooling innovations. Your role will be crucial in overcoming the challenge of maintaining scalability while keeping the systems running smoothly and cost-effective.

What tech will you use?

Cloud is GCP, and Terraform is the Infrastructure as Code, plus then some favourites from Grafana Labs (Loki, Mimir, Tempo) and good old Kubernetes and Prometheus.

Where will you work?

This team is big on in-person collaboration, and the role is based in West London, with three days a week spent in the office with the Platform Infrastructure and Developer teams.
